Almost half of Velus village located near Valpoi town in Sattari, is inundated, while several other villages were cut off as roads and culverts are under water, eyewitnesses said.
The Indian Meteorological Department had sounded a red alert for Telangana on Thursday, warning of heavy to very heavy rains in several districts of the State.
The widespread rains are being attributed to an active southwest monsoon as well as a cyclonic circulation lying over northwest Bay of Bengal in the middle and upper tropospheric levels.
According to Telangana State Planning Development Society, the average rainfall in the State during the last 24 hours was 10.4 mm against the normal rainfall of 5.0 mm.
Local train services of the Central Railway were affected due to water-logging on tracks between Vikhroli and Bhandup following heavy showers in parts of the suburbs.
