Govt to insist on affidavit for tenant farmers

Meetings would be held soon with representatives of farmers' organisations before the two key programmes sponsored by the State government get underway.

"Did any single farmer receive Rs.7,500 per acre as it was promised to the farmers in the State under Rythu Bharosa?

Fact is that the State government had announced a caste census, and was yet to conduct it, while the Election Commission of India had issued orders to defer the Rythu Bharosa payments till the polls on May 13.

The State government set in motion the exercise to prepare modalities for implementing key agriculture schemes like Rythu Bharosa, crop insurance scheme and waiver of crop loans upto Rs.2 lakh obtained by farmers.

BRS sought a compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre towards crop loss, Rs 500 per quintal bonus of paddy in addition to Minimum Support Price, disbursement of Rythu Bharosa investment support and also crop loan waiver upto Rs 2 lakh.

As per the revised budget estimates, the actual expenditure for the fiscal is around Rs 1.71 lakh crore at the end of January this is year against the projected Rs 2.24 lakh crore for the current fiscal.

Dismissing reports about him getting involved with the BJP and emerging as the next Chief Minister after Parliament elections, he said these were mere speculations.

In the past, people who did not cultivate crops got more assistance than genuine beneficiaries, he alleged, stating that reforms would be introduced in the Rythu Bandhu system and measures would be taken to ensure that assistance was extended to only those cultivating crops, he said to media persons on the Assembly premises on Saturday.

Farmers held a prominent position in Telangana, however, in the past few months, unprecedented protests have erupted in various regions across the state, marking a significant shift in the prevailing scenario.

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao emphasized that the foremost objective of his government was farmers' welfare.
