Despite the repeated requests of the union Power Ministry to the States to set up EV charging stations for the benefit of EV users, the work in Telangana is going on at a slow pace.

Due to lack of availability of solar equipment on time, there is inordinate delay in implementation of Central schemes related to rooftop solar plants and other projects in the State as well.

Despite repeated reminders from officials, the firms which got the permission to install the charging stations have not started the works.

The rooftop solar adoption has been very slow, especially in the residential sector in the State as the installation of solar power is still an expensive option for many.

According to Telangana State Renewable Energy Development corporation Limited (TSREDCO) Vice-Chairman and Managing Director N Janaiah lack of awareness was detering people from going solar.

The minimum eligibility criteria for bidders include technical experience in installing at least an 800 KW solar PV project and a minimum annual turnover of Rs. 4.5 crore over the past five fiscal years.

According to REDCO officials, after identifying over 700 locations in the GHMC limits, they were able to find only 150 suitable locations to set up charging stations.

Bhatti, who also holds the Energy Minister portfolio, held a review meeting with the officials of TSREDCO and directed them to identify government buildings, reservoirs and open spaces in the State to set up solar panels and prepare proposals to increase renewable electricity.

According to TSRedco officials, the solar panels would be installed on 57 court complexes across the State.
