The Telangana government has formed a 10-member expert committee, led by TGCHE Chairman Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, to review and recommend updated parameters for fee fixation in private unaided professional colleges.

In a crucial TAFRC meeting held here on Wednesday, it has been decided to constitute a sub-committee, which will thoroughly review the proposed fees hike in the private colleges.

The TAFRC that fixes the fee for the private colleges offering professional programmes will issue a notification by July 25, inviting applications from the managements for fee revision.

However, it can come into force from the next year only since admissions have already concluded for the present academic year and schools will commence the fresh academic session from June 12.

TAFRC has proposed to retain the existing Rs 60,000 per annum fee structure for the MBBS ‘A’ category (convener) quota seats, and Rs 45,000 per annum for BDS ‘A’ category seats

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Telangana government in last year retained the existing fee structure for UG medical and dental courses offered by private unaided colleges for the block period 2021-2023

An order to this effect has recently been issued by the Higher Education department

Following complaints from students, the TAFRC has served notices on some of the prominent engineering colleges operating in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts.

The committee also decided to impose a fine of Rs 10 lakh per student if colleges were found violating merit while admitting students under the B-category admissions.
