Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has stated that he will consult legal experts before deciding on the disqualification of defected BRS MLAs, following a Supreme Court directive. The SC has given the Speaker a three-month deadline to act, triggering political ripples in the state.

The Supreme Court has directed the Telangana Assembly Speaker to decide within 90 days on the disqualification of 10 BRS MLAs who defected to Congress, paving the way for possible by-elections. The ruling places pressure on the Congress-led government, which faces criticism for sheltering defectors while BRS celebrates the legal development as a moral victory.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had moved the condolence motion in the House.

Former Minister T Harish Rao objected to Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy questioning Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy during the question hour. When Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham inquired about the Pillaipally and Dharma Reddy canal works, the Irrigation Minister responded. Following this, the Roads and Buildings Minister criticized the BRS for neglecting irrigation projects in the former Nalgonda district. He also accused the BRS government of showing indifference towards the River Musi and its development.

As the Speaker appealed to the BRS MLAs to cooperate in passing the government bills, they raised "Rythu Ku bedila Siggu Siggu (handcuffs to farmers Shame Shame)."

With Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) members raising slogans and insisting on a discussion on the atrocities against Lagacherla farmers in the House, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar adjourned the Assembly to meet at 10 am on Tuesday.

The BRS is keen to approach the Supreme Court regarding the other BRS MLAs, who defected to Congress.

The trouble started during Question Hour when senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao asked the government to announce a date by which the RTC staff would be recognised as government employees.

The Speaker election is scheduled to be conducted in the Assembly on Thursday. With the opposition parties BRS and AIMIM supporting his candidature, Prasad Kumar's election is likely to be unanimous.

The Congress won 64 seats in the recently concluded assembly polls and its ally CPI got one seat. BRS bagged 39 seats while AIMIM was victorious in seven seats. The BJP secured eight seats.
