Three of the major projects- Medigadda, Sammakka Sagar and Seetarama Sagar on Godavari have been receiving heavy inflows and they are likely to rise further as heavy rains were forecast in north Telangana districts for the next two days.
The project gates are to be opened on July 1 every year and kept open till October 28 to ensure monsoon inflows reach the Sriram Sagar Project, a major irrigation project, some 80 km downstream.
The bridge was opened during this year’s Sri Rama Navami as large numbers of devotees were expected to attend the celebrations at Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Devasthanam here.
The Congress government had sanctioned Rs 72 crore to complete the nine km long Enkur link canal to connect Sitarama project with Nagarjuna Sagar project left canal.
In a recent letter to the temple EO L Rama Devi, the gram panchayat (GP) secretary Ch Srinivas Rao stated that the GP is not able to maintain cleanliness in the Mada streets and the Devasthanam officials have to make their own arrangements for garbage collection.
The Southwest monsoon has also advanced up to South Bay of Bengal. If the inflows into the KLIP barrages are heavy, there will be no scope to carry any sort of works this year.
Even as it is feared that Telangana could stand to lose to a great extent, Tamil Nadu is expected to gain and the issue could potentially ignite a major conflict between the two States.
