Officials issued a second warning late night on Friday after the water level crossed 48 feet. Water level at 6 am on Saturday was 50.50 feet with a discharge of 12.86 lakh cusecs and at 9 am it came down to 51.40 feet with a discharge of 13.37 lakh cusecs.
The water level crossed the second warning level for the first time this season on July 22. It started receding on Wednesday at 10 pm the water level was 45.10 feet with a discharge of 10, 18,806 cusecs.
The flood level in the river crossed the danger mark of 51 feet at the temple town of Bhadrachalam on Tuesday. In case of further rise in the river flow, the threat of huge submergence looms large.
The water level reached 43.60 feet at 8 pm with a discharge of 9, 60, 541 cusecs and forecast indicates further rise in the water level, said district Collector Jithesh V Patil.
The water level in river Godavari at Bhadrachalam in Kothagudem has been increasing steadily and reached 35.10 feet at 5 pm with a discharge of 5,96,805 cusecs of floodwater on Saturday.
He stated that the Medigadda barrage, which was written off by the Congress government, had disproved all the allegations against it by standing resolute and rocksolid surviving the flood once again
Three of the major projects- Medigadda, Sammakka Sagar and Seetarama Sagar on Godavari have been receiving heavy inflows and they are likely to rise further as heavy rains were forecast in north Telangana districts for the next two days.
The project gates are to be opened on July 1 every year and kept open till October 28 to ensure monsoon inflows reach the Sriram Sagar Project, a major irrigation project, some 80 km downstream.
