The 22 MW plant is being established at a cost of Rs 126 crore. Rs 5 crore are being spent to generate 1MW of solar power.

After the tenders called for the construction of quarters, in last January the SCCL management entered into an agreement with the contracting agency and works are expected to complete in December this year.

The SCCL management had stipulated an annual coal production target of 70 million tonnes for its 11 coal mining areas for the financial year 2023-24.

Balram, who reviewed the coal production with senior officials of the company on Friday, said if the coal production could be maintained at 2.3 lakh tonnes per day the target could be easily achieved.

The incident occurred while the mining sardar Sammi Reddy was discharging his duties in 2nd seam of the underground coal mine in the morning shift.

As per the direction of the State government the company would lay great emphasis on the welfare of the workers, he said, adding that he would give utmost importance to workers safety.
