Farmers started preparing the fields for sowing seeds of various crops mainly staple paddy, cotton, soya bean, red gram, green gran, maize, etc.

The cotton growers said that they were now easily able to buy seeds at any dealer in the district centre and 16 mandal centres without needing to wait in long queues.

Adilabad Parliament constituency, comprising seven Assembly segments such as Adilabad, Boath, Nirmal, Khanapur, Mudhole, Sirpur (T) and Asifabad went for polls on May 13.

According to officials, three venues have been created for counting the votes in the district centre.

They staged a sit-in on a road near Punjab chowk, resulting in blockade of the traffic for a while.

Addressing a press conference, Shankar alleged that due to the inefficiency of the State government there was a shortage of seeds in the State.

Unmindful of the scorching heat, they lined up in front of the shops but were allowed to buy only two bags of 450 grams each.

He stated that the policemen discharged duties to ensure farmers buy the cotton seeds by forming a queue line. He added that no worrying situation prevailed at the time of purchasing the seeds in Adilabad.

In a statement, he demanded an apology from the State government for incident. He also called for swift action against the police officers involved in the violence against the farmers.

Farmers from several parts of the district flocked the seed selling shops from 7 am, following shortage of the seeds belonging to a brand, Rashi-2.
