Amrapali Kata, the Commissioner of GHMC, released a statement urging caution due to the increased water flow at the Chaderghat bridge. 

Addressing a press conference here, he said the government should first clean all the lakes, nallas and Sewage treatment plants (STPs) in the twin cities before taking up the Musi project.

The Rs.1.5 lakh crore was estimated to be spent on different projects over the next five years. An action plan was being prepared for the purpose, says CM Revanth Reddy.

The CM appealed to the Union Minister to allot Rs.4,000 crore under the National River Conservation Plan. He also sought Rs.6,000 crore for filling Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs with water from River Godavari.

The State government initially estimated the Musi River beautification project cost at Rs 50,000 crore and was later revised to Rs 70,000 crore. Recently, the estimates were freshly revised to a staggering Rs 1.5 lakh crore even before the draft plans are prepared.

This is after consultants were invited for preparing an aggregate master plan for the project. The master plan is being prepared for a site area covering 55 km of the River Musi.

Highlighting future projects, Reddy announced plans to expand the metro rail network across the city and develop a landmark riverfront along the Musi River.

He highlighted the historical 1908 floods and emphasised the importance of the Pranahitha tamarind tree in rescuing lives.

Besides the connectivity factor in controlling the traffic, these bridges will add some beauty to the Musi and also the development on either side of the river.

As part of a slew of initiatives including works such as Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP), slip roads and link roads, which redesigned the infrastructure and eased travelling around the city, now five bridges are to come up across the river Musi at a cost of Rs.168 crore.
