According to the data released by the Telangana State Development Planning Society, several areas in and around the city have already received substantial rainfall.

As per the updated weather forecast, the city is bracing for a more intense spell of rain starting from the evening and continuing until Friday.

Within a span of 30 minutes, from 8:30 am to 9:00 am on Thursday, the suburb of Gachibowli witnessed a heavy rainfall of 13 mm.

The heat wave is very likely to continue in isolated pockets over Vidarbha and abatement thereafter.

IMD said the cyclone would intensify further gradually during the next 48 hours and move nearly north-northwestwards during the next 3 days.

There is also a possibility of thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema.

The downpour started in Rajendranagar and gradually covered Charminar, Saroornagar, LB Nagar, and eventually the entire Hyderabad.

India Meteorological Department-Hyderabad (IMD-H) has also warned that hailstorms could occur towards the evening or night, adding to the already challenging weather conditions.

APSDMA also stated that a few districts like Machilipatnam and Anantapur will witness a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of rain or thunderstorms from April 21 to 26.

The criteria for declaring a heat wave include, if the maximum temperature of a station reaches at least 40 degrees Celsius or more for plains and at least 30 degree Celsius or more for hilly regions.

Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University's advisory suggests several precautionary measures that farmers can take to minimise damage caused by heavy rains and hailstones.
