A man, accused of abducting a school-going girl, and bludgeoning her to death after a failed attempt to sexually assault her in Matigara area of Siliguri city.
The double homicide occurred at Kaimthal, within the Gonda police jurisdiction, while Mukesh Devi and her daughter Priyanka were participating in her husband's 'terahvin' ritual (conducted on the 13th day of mourning) at her in-laws' residence.
"He attempted to murder his elder daughter first. But she and the other two daughters ran out of the house. He went after them and attempted to slit their throats," police said.
Police report that the victim, Awhad, had been making offensive comments about Ahmed Sheikh's wife and sister-in-law, both of whom regarded him as a brother. Ahmed Sheikh is 33 years old.
As of 9 a.m. on Friday, the KNPA reported detecting 315 online murder threats and apprehending 119 suspects accused of making those threats, as per Yonhap News agency.
The deceased, an Anganwadi worker, Rayala Tulasamma (80) and her mentally disabled son Satyanarayana (45) were found dead in their house with multiple knife injuries.
